Marang police arrest six in drug raids across district

MARANG: Police have arrested six men suspected of being involved in drug trafficking during four separate raids across the district last week.

District police chief Superintendent Mohd Sofian Redzuan said the first arrest involved three men who were detained on June 16 at a house in Kampung Gunung Kasim, Merchang.

"All three suspects, aged between 30 and 36, tested positive for methamphetamine. Two of them have prior drug-related records.

"Police seized 51.06g of pil kuda or amphetamine pills and 1.08g of syabu, with an estimated street value of RM3,500. They also confiscated a Yamaha 125Z motorcycle worth about RM10,000.

"The suspects were remanded for seven days from June 17 to 23," he said at a press conference at the Marang district police headquarters today.

In the second raid on June 17, a 30-year-old man was arrested at an oil palm plantation in Kampung Alor Limbat, Bukit Payung.

"The suspect also tested positive for methamphetamine. Police seized 57.1g of amphetamine pills worth RM3,500 and confiscated a Honda Wave motorcycle valued at RM10,000," he said.

The third raid took place on June 21 in a forested area of Kampung Batangan, resulting in the arrest of a 34-year-old man.

"The suspect, who has three prior drug-related records and also tested positive for methamphetamine, was found in possession of 219.36g of drugs worth approximately RM8,000.

"Police also seized a Honda EX5 motorcycle worth RM3,000. He has been remanded from June 22 to 28," said Mohd Sofian.

The most recent arrest was made on June 22 in Kampung Wakaf Dua, Bukit Payung, involving a 36-year-old man.

"Urine tests confirmed he was positive for methamphetamine. Police confiscated 51.59g of amphetamine pills and 4.62g of heroin, valued at RM1,400," he said.

All cases are being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

"The total value of drugs seized across the four raids is estimated at RM16,400, while the vehicles confiscated are worth RM23,000.

"All suspects are either self-employed or manual labourers. For the record, from Jan 1 to June 22, Marang police have seized drugs worth RM483,417," he added.
