2027 Budget: Govt raises ecological fiscal transfer fund to RM270mil

By News Strait Times

KUALA LUMPUR: The government will increase the Ecological Fiscal Transfer (EFT) fund to RM270 million under 2027 Budget, up from RM250 million allocated in 2026, to support states in conserving the country's natural heritage.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the increased allocation was aimed at encouraging community-based economic activities and ecotourism while strengthening environmental conservation efforts.

The RM20 million increase represents an 8 per cent rise from the previous year's allocation.

The EFT fund provides financial incentives to state governments to protect biodiversity and conserve forests and other ecologically important areas. The allocation has risen from RM150 million in 2023 to RM200 million in 2024, before reaching RM250 million in 2025 and remaining at that level in 2026.

"The latest increase is expected to further support state-level conservation efforts while creating opportunities for local communities to benefit from nature-based tourism and sustainable economic activities," said Anwar.
