SANTIAGO, July 31 — Cape Verde goalkeeper Vozinha has delayed his arrival in Chile to complete his transfer to Colo Colo due to personal matters, according to the club’s sporting director Jaime Pizarro.
The 40-year-old goalkeeper was expected to arrive in Chile on Thursday after Colo Colo president Anibal Mosa announced his signing last Friday.
However, the delay sparked speculation in local media, with reports suggesting Vozinha was also considering an offer from Moroccan club RS Berkane.
Pizarro said the player had requested additional time to settle personal matters before travelling, while immigration procedures also contributed to the delay.
“An additional period has been requested to resolve some personal matters ... and we’ll surely have news soon regarding his travel schedule,” Pizarro told reporters.
The club accepted Vozinha’s request and allowed him time to handle his personal arrangements before joining the Chilean side.
Vozinha gained global recognition during the World Cup after producing impressive performances for Cape Verde, including a crucial display in a goalless group-stage draw against eventual champions Spain.
He also featured prominently in Cape Verde’s dramatic 3-2 extra-time defeat against Argentina in the knockout stage.
The goalkeeper, whose full name is Josimar Jose Evora Dias, is set to join Colo Colo from Portuguese second-division club Chaves.
Despite only signing his first professional contract at the age of 26, Vozinha has built an international career playing in countries including Cyprus, Slovakia, Moldova and Angola.
His World Cup performances brought him worldwide attention, with his Instagram following increasing dramatically from around 50,000 followers to more than 29 million.
