KINABATANGAN: The body of a man found by the riverside in Kampung Batu Putih yesterday has been confirmed as Andi Abdul Ghani Kadir, 41, director of the popular animated film Ejen Ali.
His remains were discovered at 11.25am along the riverbank, near the location where he was reported missing the day before.
The incident occurred on Tuesday evening while Andi and his 33-year-old wife were travelling from Tawau to Kota Kinabalu.
The vehicle, driven by his wife, is believed to have lost control and veered off the road. Andi is said to have exited the car shortly after and was last seen near the Kampung Batu Putih river bridge.
Kinabatangan Fire and Rescue Station chief Hairi Otuh said a distress call was received at 5.03pm on the day of the incident, prompting the deployment of four personnel to the scene.
"The location was approximately 23 kilometres from the station. A search and rescue operation was launched but had to be called off at 6.52pm due to nightfall.
"It resumed the following morning, and the victim was later found by the riverside near where he was last seen," he said.
Checks on social media revealed that netizens claimed Andi and his wife had only recently tied the knot on Sept 16.
